Anna earned her Ph.D in neurosciences from the University of Barcelona in 2010, focusing on proteomics applied to neurodegenerative diseases. After that, she moved to Stockholm where she worked in different research groups gaining expertise in a large variety of molecular methods applied to cell and tissue material. It was 2017 when she joined Lundberg Lab in Stockholm, establishing the tissue workflow and digging in spatial highly multiplexed proteomics methods. At the end of 2022, Anna followed to Stanford to set up the new lab and to implement, improve and expand the knowledge in highly multiplexed immunofluorescence imaging and the exciting world of analysing the generated data!

Devyn has been at Stanford University since 2019 with 4+ yrs of faculty and lab operational support. She has been supporting Dr. Lundberg since she joined Stanford in 2022 assisting with lab personnel onboarding, calendaring, and supporting the administrative and operational framework of the lab.

Ulrika is a molecular biologist who earned her PhD in Medicine from Karolinska Institutet in 2015. Her thesis was in the field of epigenetics, focusing on the role of topoisomerases in chromatin dynamics and gene expression. She spent some time at Thermo Fisher Scientific, but soon realized that her heart was in research. She joined Emma Lundbergs lab in 2017 and is now leading the work with the subcellular section of the Human Protein Atlas from Stockholm, Sweden.

Frederic has been working as a Software Developer for the last two decades. After several past positions in the private sector, he is currently enrolled in Lundberg Lab as a Research Engineer taking care of the group's computational infrastructure, systems and global applications. Besides that, it is rumored that he spends a great deal of his free time creating stories and video-games about much more far away places...

Frida is a second-year PhD student at the Lundberg Lab at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden. Frida studied to become an engineer at KTH and gained her Master of Science in Engineering degree after having completed her master's thesis in the Lundberg Lab in Spring 2021. Later that year, Frida joined the lab for her doctoral studies where she focuses on mapping spatiotemporal protein variations at the single-cell level and understanding the functional consequences of these variations. To do this, she is using highly multiplex immunofluorescence imaging techniques in combination with computational methods driven by deep learning-based cell segmentation models. Beginning Fall 2023, Frida will join the Lundberg Lab at Stanford University to continue her doctoral research and studies.

I started out my working life working as a nurse in Stockholm, Sweden. After two years in the profession I wanted to continue studying and I begun my studies at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm. During my master program I got involved in the Human Protein Atlas Project and I never left. Starting from Aug 2023 I will be in the Lundberg Lab for a one year visiting appointment. I will be working with establishing automated instrumental pipelines for spatial omics.

Anthony earned his Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2018 for building computational tools to identify proteoforms in complex systems. He is now analyzing heterogeneity of protein expression within human tissues and integrating diverse data types to better understand those observations. He joined the Lundberg Lab starting at Stanford in 2019, then in Stockholm in 2020, and then moved back to Stanford in 2022. He's hping to build towards a better understanding of how proteoform variation shapes protein localization and cellular organization in the coming years.

Rong is a first-year Ph.D. student in bioengineering currently undertaking a rotation in the Lundberg lab. She earned her bachelor's degree in biochemistry and master's degree in chemistry from National Taiwan University. Previously, she concentrated on biosensor development and nanotechnology while working in the Ho Lab at National Taiwan University. Currently, Rong is collaborating with Ernst on a mass spectrometry project aimed at exploring cell cycle proteomics.

Nicolai is a second-year Ph.D. student at the Lundberg lab at Stanford. His main focus lies on leveraging and improving Deep Visual Proteomics combining high-resolution imaging and ultra-high-sensitive mass spectrometry in cells and tissue using automated laser microdissection.

Alice will be an incoming freshman at Stanford University this fall, where she intends to major in bioengineering. Alice developed her passion for science through her participation in her high school's Biotechnology Institute, as well as from her research experiences in synthetic organic chemistry and computational biology in various research programs. Alice is excited to contribute to the research being conducted by the Lundberg Lab!

Christian is a 4th year PhD student at the Lundberg lab at KTH Royal Institute of technology in Stockholm, Sweden. His research aims to dissect functinal metabolic states that arise through enzyme expression heterogeneity in single cells as well as characterizing non-canonical functions of multilocalizing proteins.

Ankit is a post-doctoral researcher at Lundberg Lab at KTH. Ankit earned his Ph.D. in computerized image processing from Uppsala University, focusing on the application and validation of deep learning techniques in digital microscopy. Ankit will work towards developing image and multi-modal models to localize proteins in immunofluorescence cell data and create universal cell embedding models from immunohistochemically stained tissue data in the Human Protein Atlas.

Jan earned his PhD in Molecular Biomedicine, for which he applied a combination of optogenetics, microscopy, live imaging, image analysis, 3D cell culture, and transcriptomics to shed light on the role of cAMP signaling in primary cilia and sperm flagella. Since his bachelor studies he is passionate about developing simple-to-use ImageJ plugins to comprehensively and automatically analyze cells and subcellular structures. His "Q-line" of ImageJ plugins provides analysis tools for the cilia and flagella community, such as SpermQ, CiliaQ, and FreQ, but also for analyzing adipocytes and lipid droplets (AdipoQ) or cellular morphology and motility (MotiQ) [GitHub]. Jan joined the Lundberg Lab in 2022. He is driving multiple projects on primary and motile cilia in human cells and tissues. Jan hopes to understand how cells in a tissue communicate and how they find their individual role.

Miguel is the the Lab Assistant for four labs, including the Lundberg Lab. He will be assisting with the maintenance of glassware and common stock supplies. He earned his bachelor’s degree in molecular biology from Cal State East Bay.

I graduated from KTH in June with a degree in medical biotechnology and joined the Lundberg Lab in august. Here, I am mainly involved with generating data for the subcellular section of the human protein atlas and investigating the signature protein expression in a fibrogenic subset of macrophages.

I am currently a PhD student under the supervision of Prof. Emma Lundberg in the Cell Atlas of the Human Protein Atlas at Science for Life Laboratory and KTH Royal Insitute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden. I have moved to Stanford BioE to continue my PhD with the same topic(s). I finished my master thesis in the Cell Profiling group in Spring 2018, and, after a year in Francis Crick Institute (London) investing cancer gene heterogeneity, came back since Fall 2019 for PhD study.

Will joined the lab as a postodc after receiving his PhD in Bioengineering at UC San Diego. His research background is interdisciplinary, ranging from microfabrication of organs-on-chips to biophysical measurements of cells within 3D hydrogens. Currently, Will is studying the spatial organization of proteins regulating cell migration, with a particular interest in identifying markers for metastasis.

Diana earned her Master's degree in Biochemistry from the Lebanese University and joined the Lundberg Lab in 2011 preliminarily as a research engineer and later earned her PhD. degree in 2019. Her main research project focuses on characterizing heterogeneity of protein expression on a single cell level and focuses on the variations correlated to cell cycle phase transitions in human cells. Diana has expanded her expertise in highly multiplexed spatial proteomics throughout the years in both industry and academic experience.

Mariya earned her MD degree from Semey State Medical University. Although she was trained as a clinician, she decided to pursue research and moved to Israel for Ph.D. studies. Her graduate work focused on breast cancer proteomics, aiming to understand the spatial inter- and intratumoral heterogeneity and delineate the contribution of intratumoral molecular diversity to cancer progression using the mass spectrometry-based proteomic analysis. She joined the Lundberg Lab in 2021 as postdoctoral fellow and is currently working on deciphering intratumoral heterogeneity on a single cell level using integrated mxDeep Visual Proteomics workflow.

Maddie has just finished her third year studying medicine at the University of Cambridge, having completed her integrated BA in Physiology and Development. She is currently taking a year out of her medical studies to undertake research in the Lundberg Lab at Stanford.

Irene Muñoz is a visiting Ph.D. student at the Carlos Simon Foundation in Valencia, Spain, specializing in reproductive medicine. Her research focuses on understanding decidualization resistance in severe pre-eclampsia. Passionate about incorporating advanced techniques, Irene aims to apply multiplex proteomics to her work. She is eager to gain hands-on experience in highly multiplexed spatial proteomics during her stay in our lab.

Emmie joined the Stockholm site of the Lundberg lab in March 2021 as a PhD student. Previously, she studied bioengineering at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology and holds a Master of Science in Engineering degree. Her research is focused on extending the spatiotemporal proteome maps of understudied organelles and cell types, such as micronuclei and human sperm cells. She is interested in understanding the fundamentals of cell biology and how protein localization and variation contributes to health and disease.

Originally from the Philippines, Ernst lived in Hawaii, Pacifica, and Virginia before coming back to San Francisco. During his studies at Diablo Valley (Community) College, Ernst joined the PUMAS Program at Gladstone Institute in 2017, where he worked in the lab of Shomyseh Sanjabi (2017), studying CD8+ T cells in which are cells that are called upon to kill virus- infected cells. He joined Cancer Cell Map Initiative (CCMI) at University of California San Francisco 2018, where he worked in the lab of Nevan Krogan/David Agard, studying the interactions between Casein Kinase 1δ and ɣ-Tubulin Ring Complex. After, he was hired at the Krogan Lab (UCSF/Gladstone Institute) as an expert cross-linking mass-spec research assistant. Alongside of being hired, he transferred to San Francisco State University (SFSU) where he graduated in BS Cell Molecular Biology. Upon graduating and still working at Gladstone Institute, he received a NIH RISE fellowship to continue his studies at SFSU as a Graduate (Masters). Here, he joined the Sanchez Lab to study KSHV latent proteins and its interactions with host (human) proteins. Today, he is a PhD student in the Biophysics Program at Stanford School of Medicine. He is interested in finding new ways of using mass spec and cryo-microscopy technologies to study protein-protein interactions and their implications in diseases.

Sanem is a 4th year PhD student at Lundberg lab at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden. Her research aim is to create spatiotemporal maps of developing human organs using multiplexed imaging techniques.

By training Katrin is a pharmacist specialized in Geriatrics. Her curiosity to get to know other sectors of the medication process led her to leave the pharmacy to work as a laboratory engineer at the Karolinska hospital in Stockholm in the department of Pathology and Cancer diagnostics. Inspired by her new insides in pathology and diagnostical method development she wanted to take a further step into cancer research – starting in the Lundberg Lab as a research professional in late 2023. Here she is involved in a multidisciplinary project aiming to detect environmental, lifestyle, and endogenous promotion factors in early cancer development by using multiplexed immunofluorescence imaging approaches.

In her leisure time she writes health advisory articles for lay people – combining her dedication to give advice to patients and her passion for writing.

Alina got her initial training in cell biology and moved to the University of Groningen (Netherlands) to join an interdisciplinary team of physicists, chemists and biologists in 2017. Her PhD project was focused on developing and validating nanodiamond-based intracellular sensors for highly sensitive detection of free radicals on single-cell and subcellular level. She earned her PhD in 2022 and joined the Lundberg Lab at KTH in Stockholm, Sweden, as a postdoctoral fellow in 2023. Her current research is aimed at characterizing single-cell variability in the expression of redox-associated proteins under oxidative stress and during cell differentiation.

Kalliopi earned her PhD in Medicine from Uppsala University in 2021. Her doctoral studies focused on the involvement of TGFβ signaling in cell differentiation, mainly in the context of cancer. In the past she also worked as a molecular biology scientist for a while in the field of molecular diagnostics where she gained experience in methods applied for the detection of mutations related to genetic disorders. In August 2022, Kalliopi joined Emma Lundberg’s lab and more specifically became part of the team that works with the subcellular section of the Human Protein Atlas in Stockholm, Sweden.

Iva is a first-year PhD student at the Ayoglu lab and the Lundberg lab at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm (Sweden). She earned her Master´s degree in molecular biology at the Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb (Croatia). Iva´s research is centered around Lewy Body disorders, including Parkinson´s disease, Parkinson´s disease with dementia, and Lewy Body dementia. Utilizing spatial proteomics, she aims to shed light on the biology of these diseases and find potential protein biomarkers distinguishing them.

Zoe is a first-year computer science PhD student rotating in the Lundberg lab. She recently received her bachelors in math and computer science from McGill University. She is interested in using machine learning and computation to advance biological research and innovation. In the Lundberg lab, she is working on generative modelling of microscopy images for the HPA dataset.

A recent graduate from Columbia, Sherry studied Biology and Statistics during college. In the Califano Lab at Columbia Medical Center, Sherry conducted computational work on reconstructing regulatory network to identify master regulators for metastatic pancreatic cancer. She is currently working on the cilia project with Jan to characterize features that correlate with various cell types and development-related diseases.
